Meet The Coaches

  • Christian Olanowski

    Christian Olanowski was born and raised in Virginia Beach, VA. Christian was a graduate of Kellam High School in 2012 where two of his brothers were state champions. In high school he was a 4x state placer winner winning a state title as a senior. He also placed at the Beast of East and was Honorable Mention for the Asics All-American Team. After high school Christian attended Michigan State University and wrestled at 133/141lbs for the Spartans.

  • Matt Akers

    Giving back to Virginia wrestling with the knowledge I’ve obtained competing at the state and national level. Wrestled for Ferrum college under Nate Yetzer and Ryan Riggs, was apart of the 2017 NWCA national duals 8th place team finish, NCAA southeast conference/ regional team championships and was a NCAA southeast wrestling conference place winner. Previous coaching experience with VATP, Hermitage, Mills Godwin, and Deep Run high school. Current BJJ competitor.

  • Jesse Bell

    Coach Jesse Bell is a dedicated and accomplished wrestling coach from Midlothian, VA. Coach Bell joined the Manchester wrestling staff, leading the first 14 MHS wrestlers to have over 100 wins. As a coach, he values hard work, discipline, and academic excellence, with his senior wrestlers averaging a 3.75 GPA over a 20 year period. Coach Bell has also been involved in various off-season wrestling programs, fostering the growth and success of young athletes. Additionally, he is a wrestling official for the CVWOA and has hosted multiple tournaments, contributing to the sport's development

  • Joe Bull

    Joe Bull was has lived in the Richmond area since 2004, the same year he began wrestling and fell in love with the sport. Joe attended Mills Godwin High School, where he was a 4 year varsity letter earner. After high school, Joe began coaching at his alma mater. Joe earned his teaching degree from Radford University and is working towards his masters degree in Physcial Education.

  • Kyle Cochran

    Kyle is originally from Paramus, NJ where he attended Paramus High School. During his high school years Cochran was a 2x NJ state finalist, State Champion, Super 32 champion and double Fargo All-American(FS/GR).

    After HS Kyle attended the University of Maryland where he graduated in 2022. During his time at Maryland he was ranked as high as #8 in the nation. Cochran won arguable the toughest in season tournament in the nation in college, the Southern Scuffle. Additionally, he was a Big Ten place winner and NCAA Qualifier. Most importantly, Kyle was a 3 year team captain so we are thrilled he brings a high level of leadership to our club.

  • Jon Gingrich

    Jon is originally from Wingate, PA where he attended Bald Eagle Area HS. He was a PIAA state place winner before moving on to wrestle collegiately at Penn State.

    During his time at PSU Jon was part of the first four NCAA championship teams under Coach Cael Sanderson. As an individual Jon was ranked as high as #7 in the nation as a Big Ten place winner and a NCAA qualifier.

    After college Jon was a resident athlete at the Pittsburgh Wrestling Club. He was a finalist at the Dave Schultz Memorial Tournament and a champion of the Guelph Open in Canada. Additionally, he spent 1 year coaching at Brown.

  • Carter Page

    Carter wrestled in high school at Smithfield where he was a 3x state place winner and a state finalist.

    After high school Carter went on to wrestle at Virginia Tech where he amassed an impressive 25 wins in his redshirt campaign and was part of the 2015-2016 team that brought home a 4th place NCAA trophy.

    After Tech Carter transferred to Life U where he was 12-1 and ranked 4th in the nation before suffering a career ending injury.

    Carter also brings an impressive coaching background to River City as he was an assistant coach at Christiansburg High School where he was part of two state championship teams. Additionally, he was an assistant at Life U where he was part of an NAIA Championship team and Runner Up finish.

    Carter will be the head coach for our NEW ADULT WRESTLING PROGRAM! Beginning Monday, March 11. He will also be assisting with our youth and advanced group.

  • Tyler Hamblen

    Tyler was the original founder of River City Wrestling back in 2013. He has since stepped away from the club to focus on raising his children, Whitney and Parker. Tyler is married to Lindsey Hamblen. We look forward to Tyler rejoining our staff when the time is right.
